Winterline Carnival

Mussoorie, known as the Queen of Hills, is preparing to host the annual Mussoorie Winterline Carnival, a five-day event that takes place from December 25th to the 29th or 30th. It experiences a unique natural phenomenon called the Winter Line Phenomenon, which occurs only in a few places around the world, including Mussoorie. This phenomenon can be observed from mid-October to mid-January and captivates tourists with its beauty. The Winter Line is a distinct line in the sky, resembling a faux horizon. Just before the sun sets across the real horizon, it disappears behind this faux horizon, creating a breathtaking sight. The warm air from the Dehradun Valley rises while the air around Mussoorie remains cold during winter, resulting in the meeting of air with different temperatures. This convergence gives rise to the sharp line, with the lower part appearing dark and the cooler air above displaying a light blue hue. Although the line is always present, it illuminates in a golden glow just before sunset due to the refraction of light. Every winter evening, countless visitors gather on the Mall Road in Mussoorie, gazing in awe and amazement at this meteorological phenomenon occurring over the Doon Valley.
