Nylon Textile production commenced in 1962, with Nirlon transitioning to a public limited company on March 13th, 1963. Subsequently, Nylon Tyrecord and Nylon Polyester production began in 1971 and 1974, respectively. The company diversified into the manufacture of Industrial Rubber Belting products in 1978, expanding its operations in Roha, District Raigad. Significant expansions followed, including the enhancement of the Nylon Tyrecord facility in Tarapur in 1984.
In 1988, Nirlon registered with the Board for Financial and Industrial Reconstruction (BIFR), with a rehabilitation scheme sanctioned in 1993. The company ventured into Real Estate in 1999, offering its premises in Goregaon to leading corporates. Adjustments to the rehabilitation scheme were approved the same year. Nirlon exited the Polyester Filament Yarn business in 1995 and the Nylon Textile Filament Yarn business in 1999.
In 2000, the company established a Joint Venture for its conveyor belting division and obtained ISO9002 accreditation for its Nylon Tyrecord division. Facility expansions continued, with licensed areas at the Goregaon complex in 2003 and 2005. By the financial year 2005-06, the implementation of the rehabilitation scheme was substantially completed, leading to the deregistration of Nirlon from the list of sick industrial units by BIFR in 2006-07.
The company commenced development of an IT Park at Goregaon in 2007-08. In the subsequent financial year, it decided to phase out its V-Belt division, with plans to monetize its assets. Development plans for additional phases in Goregaon were scheduled for 2009-2012, aiming to create approximately 2.8 million sq. ft. of built-up area.
