Established in March 1991 as a public limited company, Lactose (India) Ltd initiated its operations with a project aimed at manufacturing lactose IP/BP grade, a substitute for imported variants. Over time, the company expanded its capacity from 465 tpa to 1500 tpa, alongside setting up a pharmaceutical formulation plant encompassing capsule, tablet, and injectable sections.
Subsequently, in 1995-96, the company diversified its portfolio by venturing into the processing of sweetened condensed milk for domestic consumption and acid casein for exports. They also commenced job work related to condensed milk casein powder.
In 2004-05, Lactose (India) Ltd optimized its pharmaceutical plant, securing long-term contract manufacturing agreements with leading multinational corporations. Notably, they invested significantly in upgrading their facilities to comply with new regulatory directives from the Food and Drug Administration, and ventured into equipment manufacturing, assembly, and export projects in the Kandla Special Economic Zone.
Further expansions occurred in 2006-07 with a focus on value-added product manufacturing, specifically 'LACTULOSE', integrating seamlessly with their existing lactose production. The subsequent year witnessed the successful implementation and commissioning of a new liquid oral division, followed by the initiation of liquid formulations manufacturing in 2008-09.
