The primary products manufactured by the company are Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolona Cement (PPC), with a product mix ratio of 95:5 OPC to PPC. These products are marketed under the brand name 'Suvarna Cement', primarily targeting markets in Andhra Pradesh, with smaller quantities sold in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Established on May 17, 1982, in Hyderabad under the name Suvarna Cements Ltd by V C Brahamanna and associates, the company initially began operations with a production capacity of 66,000 tonnes per annum. Commercial production commenced in June 1986, albeit with initial losses leading to a referral to BIFR in 1990.
Following the rehabilitation package sanctioned by BIFR, the company's capacity was expanded to 99,000 tonnes per annum, and management was taken over by the existing management. In March 18, 1999, Hyderabad Bottling Company Ltd, along with the promoter directors, acquired the company's stake, leading to further expansion of capacity to 297,000 tonnes per annum by 2003.
Recognized for its turnaround efforts, the company received the 'Best Turnaround/Revival of a Sick Industry' award from the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry in 2003-04. Subsequently, in November 23, 2005, the company was rebranded as Keerthi Industries Ltd.
Expanding its operations, the company acquired land for a proposed sugar project and entered into the generation of 1.50 MW wind power in Karnataka during 2006-08. Additionally, in 2008-09, Hyderabad Flextech Ltd merged with the company.
Currently, Keerthi Industries Ltd is in the process of increasing its production capacity from 297,000 tonnes per annum to 528,000 tonnes per annum, with a total investment of Rs. 102.16 crore, primarily financed through a debt of Rs. 68.10 crore. The company aims to complete construction and commence production by October 2010 and is also considering the establishment of a one million tonne capacity unit within its existing premises.
