In addition to synthetic rutile and ferric chloride, CMRL also produces off-grade titanium dioxide and ferrous chloride, exporting its products to Japan and Middle Eastern countries. In 1998-99, the company expanded its synthetic rutile capacity to 18,000 MT and secured a mining lease in the Neendakar-Kayamkulam belt, ensuring a stable supply of ilmenite, a key raw material.
The company's manufacturing facility received ISO 9002 certification from Bureau Veritas Quality International. In 2000-01, a new facility with a capacity of 20,000 MT for ferrous chloride production was established, alongside a 7,000 MT expansion in synthetic rutile capacity.
In 2001-02, CMRL collaborated with Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (KSIDC) to form 'Kerala Rare Earths and Minerals Limited' (KRML), aimed at implementing a project in Kerala for Beach Sand Ilmenite Mining and Mineral Separation, with an investment of Rs. 100 crores.
