Hazira (Gujarat) [India], Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) chief Sameer V Kamath on Saturday said that after all the trials, the indigenous light tank Zoravar is expected to be inducted into the Indian Army by the year 2027.

Kamat today reviewed the progress of the project at Larsen & Toubro plant in Hazira, Gujarat.

DRDO and L&T have integrated USVs in carrying munitions in tanks, learning lessons from the Russia and Ukraine conflict.

The DRDO chief told ANI, "It is really an important day for all of us to see the light tank in action. It makes me happy and proud. It is really an example. In a short period of two years to two and a half years, We have not only designed this tank but also built the first prototype and now the first prototype will be undergoing development testing in the next six months, and then we will be ready to offer it to our users for user trials. It is expected to be inducted into the Indian Army by the year 2027 after all trials.”

The light tank Zoravar weighs 25 tonnes and this is for the first time, a fresh tank has been designed and tested in such a short period of time.
