New Delhi: A 68-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Kashmere Gate metro station on the Red Line on Thursday, officials said.

A senior police officer said the man has been identified as Sunil Gupta, a resident of Chawri Bazar.

The officer said that according to the victim's brother, Gupta was suffering from tuberculosis for the last few years and more than Rs 6 lakh had already been spent on his treatment.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), services on the Red Line--

which connects Rithala in Delhi to Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Stand) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh – remained affected for some time.

"Services delayed between Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Stand) and Rithala due to passengers on tracks at Kashmere Gate metro station. Normal service on all other lines," DMRC said in a post on Twitter at 12.04 pm.

Five minutes later, DMRC said normal services had resumed on the line.

Police said they also recovered a suicide note. The dead body has been sent for post-mortem.
