A team of talented Yakshagan artists from Mangaluru (Karnataka), Dakshina Kannada district is all set to take the popular traditional art form to America.

Organized by Yakshadruva Patla Foundation Trust USA, this cultural exchange aims to showcase the rich heritage of Yakshagana.

Addressing a press conference here, Yakshadruva Patala Foundation Trust's USA unit Chairman Arvind Upadhyay expressed his gratitude to Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttij Matha for the recognition by the US government.

Led by prominent personalities like Sridhar Alva, Mahabala Shetty and Uli Yogendra Bhatt, the team has scheduled performances in major cities across 20 states in the US.

Background artistes Patla Satish Shetty, Padmanabha Upadhyay and Chaitanya Krishna Padyana will join the nine-member troupe on an art tour of about 75 days.

Collaboration with Puttige Math, Kannada group members, Yakshagana Sangha, temples and other organizations will enhance the success of their mythological storytelling performances.

Additionally, the team is planning to organize short training camp demonstrations at select locations.

Highlighting the significance of their participation, Professor ML Samaga said, “Our Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation team is honored to present a program at the Balu Wijarimbanya Akka Conference, a biennial event in the US. Audiences in San Jose, Seattle, Phoenix, Los Angeles and many other cities will experience the magic of Yakshagana.

Earlier, in June and July 2023, under the leadership of Yakshadhruva Yaksha Shiksha Coordinator Vasudev Aital Panambur, the team had successfully introduced Yakshagana to foreigners, Indians and university students through captivating programs.
