Zheng's 23 aces are the most hits in a WTA Tour match this season, better than Karolina Pliskova's previous mark of 19 against Anna Kalinskaya in Doha. This is the most in any match since Rebecca Marino's 24 against Caroline Garcia at the 2022 Guadalajara.

Since 2008, Zheng is the seventh player to serve 23 or more aces in a match, joining Kristina Pliskova (four times), Serena Williams (twice), Karolina Pliskova, Sabine Lisicki, Caroline Garcia and Rebecca Marino. This is the most aces served by Osaka in her career, surpassing the 16 aces served by Karolina Pliskova in Brisbane this year.

In the latter match, former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka secured a spot in the second round with a 6–4, 6–2 win over No. 7 seed Maria Sakkari.World No. 19 Azarenka, who was a semi-finalist here in 2021, needed 1 hour and 33 minutes to see off Sakkari and seal her fourth top 10 win of the year. Azarenka has maintained her dominance over Sakkari throughout their rivalry, and has won all four of their professional meetings.

Azarenka's serve was never broken in the match, saving seven of Sakkari's aces in the process. Azarenka won 80 percent of her first serve points, while Sakkari also won 61 percent of her second serve points.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Azarenka is still in search of the first grass-court title of her career.Azarenka's best result in a grass-court event was running to the Eastbourne final in 2010, where she lost to Ekaterina Makarova.

The 2022 Berlin champion, No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, took the opening set of her first-round match against qualifier Wang Xinyu of China before play was suspended overnight due to rain.

World number 10 Jabeur took a 4-1 lead after the double break, but 40th-ranked Wang came back to level the score at 4-4. However, Jabeur grabbed a break at 5–4 when her backhand service return was headed into the net by Wang, and the Tunisian lost the set at love.

But as the players sat down for the changeover between sets, the rain intensified and the day's play was abandoned. That means Czech teenager Linda Noskova will have to wait until tomorrow to find out whether she will play Jabeur or Wang in the second round.
