Lucknow: Several illegal constructions, including shops and houses, are being demolished in the Akbarnagar area here on Monday, a senior official of the Lucknow Development Authority said.

Lucknow Development Authority vice-chairman Indramani Tripathi said people have been asked to vacate the block and shift to the new area.

"For the last two days, we have been appealing to them to shift their belongings and move to their new apartments in Vasant Kunj. I personally went there and requested people. Most of them have shifted," Tripathi said. "

“We are removing them and demolition of the vacant blocks is underway,” he said.

Security forces have been deployed at the spot and the entire area is under CCTV surveillance.

Meanwhile, people complained that Rs 8,000 was being charged from them to go to the new place.

He also said that the new apartments are mostly on the upper floors which is an issue for senior citizens.

“There is no proper connectivity in the area,” said MD Raja, a local resident.
