A 50-year-old woman survived but lost her legs after being hit by a train at a railway station in Navi Mumbai, Mumbai. An official gave this information on Monday.

A viral video of the incident shows the 'local' (suburban) train slowly overturning after passengers on the platform raised an alarm, revealing the injured woman lying on the tracks.

The woman, who was traveling to Thane from Belapur station, where the accident occurred, missed a step while boarding the crowded train and fell on the tracks. The train was already in motion and a coach passed over it.

Co-passengers and security personnel raised noise on the platform, after which the train started overturning.

In the video, it is seen that the woman with bloodied feet is trying to get up with great difficulty and the policemen are jumping on the track to help her.

"The Panvel-Thane train was reversed at platform number three of Belapur station to save the life of the woman passenger, who was later taken to nearby MGM hospital," Central Railways Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Neela said.

Railway official said that the woman suffered serious injuries on her legs due to the train passing over her.
