Bijapur: A 50-year-old woman was injured on Wednesday in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district when she stepped on an IED planted by Naxalites. Police gave this information.

A police officer said the incident took place around 6.30 am when Jogi, a resident of Nadapalli village under Usoor police station area, was collecting forest produce.

They said he accidentally stepped on the pressurized IED, which caused the explosion, causing serious injuries to his legs.

He said Jogi was immediately taken to a health center in Usur where he was given initial treatment before being referred to Bijapur District Hospital.

Maoists often plant IEDs on roads, under-construction roads and unpaved paths in forests to target security personnel patrolling in the hinterland of Bastar region, which comprises seven districts including Bijapur. Police said that hundreds of citizens in Bastar have become victims of such traps.

According to the police, in the last two and a half months, five people have died in IED blasts planted by Naxalites at different places in Bijapur district.

On June 2, a 22-year-old man was injured in a similar incident in Tarrem area of ​​the district.
