Jodhpur (Rajasthan): A 42-year-old woman and her two minor children drowned in a water tank in Bara Khurd village of Pipar near Jodhpur in Rajasthan, police said on Friday.

The woman had come to her maternal home with her children about 10 days ago during summer holidays.

Superintendent of Police (Jodhpur Rural) Dharmendra Singh Yadav said Santos Kanwar and his two children – Divya (15) and Honey (12) – had come to Bar Khurd from Pali district about 10 days ago.

"On Friday morning, she had gone to wash clothes at a water tank in her father's farm, about 500 meters away from home. Her children also accompanied her," Yadav said.

The children were playing with others near the pond when Kanwar's son slipped and fell into the water. To save him, his daughter also jumped into the tank but both of them started drowning. Seeing them drowning, Kanwar also jumped into the pond.

Police said Yadav said that since the incident site was some distance away, the children present there raised an alarm and the local people came running and rescued him.

Police said Kanwar and his children were taken to the hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Yadav told that Santosh's husband Govind Singh runs a tea shop in Khinwara of Pal district.
