The Tata Institute of Social Sciences Teachers' Association (TISSTA) on Monday expressed concern over the lack of clarity on the financial sustainability and future of teachers and staff under the TET along with the parity of the Seventh Pay Commission.

TISSTA also stated that the notices issued to the staff of the Advanced Center for Women's Studies have not yet been retracted.

The TISS announced on Sunday that it had withdrawn the contract non-renewal notices sent to 55 teachers and 60 non-teachers and asked them to continue their work.

TISS had stated that the 55 teachers and 60 non-teaching staff were appointed under programs funded by Tata Education Trust (TET) and were on contractual basis with exact program period.

"TISS has withdrawn the notices issued to teachers and staff over non-funding of the Tata Education Trust (TET). Following a meeting between the TISS management and TET on Sunday, the dismissal order of the teachers and staff was issued. personnel who receive salaries from this source have been withdrawn," TISSTA stated.

The teachers' association, however, described the measure as a temporary relief for its colleagues.

"We are concerned about our colleagues being projected as project staff. We clarify that our colleagues in Tata Trust positions are integral members of our Schools and Centres.

"They are appointed through an appropriate selection process and hired through contracts, and have contributed to the main teaching and educational activities of the Institute, in many cases for more than a decade," the TISSTA statement said.

This is a short-term or temporary relief and there is no clarity on the way forward, he said and requested a meeting with the TISS vice-chancellor to seek clarification.

According to TISSTA, the dismissal letters sent to the staff of the Advanced Center for Women's Studies have not yet been retracted.

"As a UGC/Government of India programme, there is a regular annual delay in receipt of grants, among other things. Under the circumstances, such termination letters should not have been issued to you. We reiterate that these letters must be retracted with immediate effect and outstanding salaries must be reinstated and released (March to June 2024), "the statement says.

Expressing concern over the lack of clarity over financial sustainability and its future, TISSTA stated that the current situation was precipitated due to administrative delays in taking timely measures and ensuring academic continuity, especially when the institute is on the verge of begin your new academic session and transition. to the NEP frameworks for all its teaching programmes.

"We seek a holistic roadmap by the TISS Administration for regularization and absorption of teaching and TET staff with mapping and filling of pending vacant posts and new UGC posts," the statement said.
