Bengaluru: Encouraged by the tremendous performance of students of schools run by Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) in the Class 1 board exams, the state government has vowed to upgrade these schools at par with sophisticated private schools.

Established to provide quality education to economically and socially backward communities, these schools came into limelight on May 9 when the SSL results were out and Ankita Basappa of Morarji Desai Residency School in Mudhol, Bagalkot district, Konnur became the topper by scoring 625 marks . Of 625 marks.

Ankita is the only student to get 100% marks in all subjects this year.

She belongs to a simple background as her father Basappa Konnur is a farmer and her mother is a housewife who often helps her husband in the fields.

State Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa said, “Continuing this stellar performance of the schools of the Social Welfare Department, I have decided to ensure that all our government schools are upgraded at par with the most state-of-the-art schools.,

According to official sources, Karnataka has 833 residential schools named after Morarji Desai, Kittur Rani Chennamma, BR Ambedkar, Atal Bihar Vajpayee, Indira Gandhi, Masti Venkatesh Iyengar and Ekalavya.

KREIS also manages pre-university colleges.

The state government aims to enhance the knowledge and mindset of the students scientifically and intellectually.

He said that most of the students in the residential schools of the Social Welfare Department are from ordinary backgrounds.

“It is important to think about state-of-the-art infrastructure for an advanced education system.Our Government is committed to make the dreams of D Babasaheb Ambedkar a reality by establishing a rational society supported by an intellectually and socially awakened public. Of the people."

Regarding KREIS schools, he said that students from the most deprived sections such as rag pickers, ex-Manua scavengers, cemetery labourers, children rescued from child labor and orphans would be given free and direct admission.

Mahadevappa also shared data on the performance of six types of government schools run by social welfare departments.

While the overall percentage of students passing the Karnataka SSLC exam was 73.4, government-run residential schools scored 96 per cent.The total percentage of students scoring grade A marks between 9 and 100 percent was 5.58 percent. But, residential school students reaching Grade A were 9.22 per cent.

The number of students who performed poorly in the SSLC exam this year was very less.

The minister said that out of 798 government residential schools, 358 had 100 percent result.
