“We wholeheartedly welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. But what about Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi? Will he support his father's stand or respect the Supreme Court's decision? BJP State Mahila Morcha President C. Manjula said.

He said that in 1985 when Congress had majority, they disregarded the justice and respect given to Muslim women by the Supreme Court.

“Today, Congress is not in power. The BJP government, which has abolished triple talaq, will once again stand in favor of these women. Women now feel more secure under PM Modi,” he said.

He said that in 1985, the Supreme Court had ruled under CrPC 125 that Muslim women divorced by their husbands are entitled to maintenance. However, the Congress government led by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi opposed it in Parliament, supported the Muslim Personal Law and rejected the Supreme Court decision.

“By doing so, he disregarded the principles of the Constitution. Congress stood against the pro-women stance of the apex court.
