Dimapur: Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Saturday said his Republican Party of India (A) will encourage investors to set up their units in Nagaland, where there is huge development potential.

Addressing a press conference in Chumaukedima, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Athawale said investment in the North-East will solve the problem of unemployment.

The minister, who is coming from Maharashtra, said he has invited Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to India's commercial capital Mumbai to meet the business community there.

Athawale asked the Social Welfare Department officials to look into the pending issues of a holistic regional center in Dimapur, a de-addiction center for women and boys and district disability rehabilitation centers in Dimapur, Mon and Tuensang.

He also highlighted that under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, a total of 3 lakh accounts have been opened in Nagaland and Rs 122.21 crore has been sanctioned.

He said Rs 1928.45 crore was provided to about 1,40,000 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, while 1,22,000 people were provided cooking gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

He said that around 10,000 houses were constructed at a cost of Rs 310.52 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) during the period 2018-2024.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, economic progress is being made on a large scale in the country and the country is expected to reach the third position during the tenure of the NDA government.

Athawale also said his party, which has won two seats in the state assembly elections in 2023, will continue to extend full support to the Neiphiu Rio-led government.
