Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Rajya Sabha member Bhagwat Karad on Monday said he will write to the government to de-notify the area required for the floating solar project in Maharashtra's Jayakwadi dam.

He expressed hope for the reduction in water evaporation once the project becomes critical.

Karad chaired a meeting to review the ongoing development projects in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Nathsagar Reservoir in Jayakwadi is a famous bird sanctuary that attracts bird species from all over the world.

When asked if he had written a letter to revoke the status of the bird sanctuary, the former Union minister said, "I have written a letter regarding this matter earlier also. I will now write another letter to the government In which a demand will be made to de-notify the area required for floating." Solar panel project. This project will require approximately 7,500 acres."

He claimed that after the floating solar plant is installed, evaporation of dam water will reduce by 33 percent per year. Besides, it will also generate electricity and provide shade to the birds.

A floating solar power plant is a solar platform that uses the sun's rays falling on water bodies to conserve precious water. It refers to the deployment of photovoltaic panels on the surface of water bodies.

Karad said that there are some obstacles in the expansion of the airstrip in Chikalthana of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

"The 280 meter wide river stretch can be closed through a slab. I would ask the government to acquire about 147 acres of land required for the expansion," he said.

Speaking about the water pipeline plan, he said work on the jackwell was progressing slower than expected and feared the project could miss the December 2024 guideline.
