Rudrapur (Uttarakhand)[India], A three-day special wheelchair basketball training camp at Stone Ridge International Public School, Rudrapur began on Friday and will conclude on Sunday.

The camp is being jointly organized by the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India and Disabled Sporting Society Uttarakhand under the leadership of Bharat Bhushan Chugh, State President of Disabled Sporting Society Uttarakhand.

The aim of the camp is to enhance the skills of para-athletes in Uttarakhand, preparing them to participate in national and international competitions. A total of 30 athletes, including 15 male and 15 female players, have been selected from different districts of Uttarakhand for training. These athletes will receive special coaching from Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India President Varun Ahlawat and international coach and secretary Louis Gaurang, a release said.

Harish Chaudhary, state secretary of the International Para-Athlete Society, said the selection process is based on the level of disability of the athletes, with each athlete given a score from 1 to 4.5. The total team score on the court should not exceed 14 points, to ensure balanced competition taking into account the different levels of mobility of players.

The coaching camp will provide comprehensive training to prepare the Uttarakhand team for the National Wheelchair Basketball Competition to be held in Gwalior in October. Additionally, special coaches will be trained to monitor and improve the players' performance throughout the camp.

Transport facilities and special wheelchairs for the training were generously provided by Kavish Agarwal, a social worker from Noida.
