Accusing the state government of 'negligence', HUDA said in a statement, "Farmers have been waiting for their turn to sell their produce for several days. There was no arrangement for lifting grains in the markets. The reality of the government making payment to the farmers within 72 hours of the buyers has once again been exposed.

Hooda also said that the government was found sleeping despite the rain forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Markets are flooded with grains due to lack of offtake. Under compulsion, farmers are forced to throw their wheat on the roads.

“The crops lying under the open sky were washed away in the rain water. The BJ government is directly responsible for the loss caused to farmers,” the Congress leader said.

He also reiterated his demand that the government should end the problems of the portal and should make the lifting and payment soon so that the farmers can prepare for the next season. He said that farmers who have suffered losses due to mustard should be compensated by the government.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary T.V.S.N. Prasad has directed the Deputy Commissioner to quickly survey the crops damaged by hailstorm to ensure timely compensation.

Prasad stressed the need to speed up lifting of stocks from mandis and insisted that at least 50 per cent of the stocks be immediately shifted to warehouses by Sunday evening.

He also directed the Deputy Commissioners to facilitate communication between the commission agents and farmers and urged the farmers to refrain from bringing their crops to the procurement centers to free up space for the arrival of wheat.

As a result, there will be no shopping on Sunday.

Prasad also gave clear instructions to the officials that farmers should not face any problem in selling their crops and payment for the crop should be ensured within the prescribed period under all circumstances.
