When Kerala CPI(M) secretary MV Govindan was asked a question about Veena's IT firm Xlogic being under the ED probe, he reacted sharply.

“What is the big deal in this, when ED works like the mafia of the BJP-led government? Now that a Chief Minister is behind bars, it is useless to interrogate anyone. The Center is using agencies and this has become very clear,” Sai Govindan.

Incidentally, Govindan's statement came a day after CM Vijayan abruptly ended his press conference when a similar question was asked about his daughter.

The questioning of officials of the Kochi-based mining company entered its third day on Wednesday.

Despite the ED serving two notices to its CMD, Sasidharan Karta, he is yet to appear before it, while three staff members and a former employee of the firm have been questioned by the agency.

Trouble started for Veena when the issue was first raised by Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalandan last year based on a media report which quoted an Income Tax Department official as saying that "Vijayan's daughter Veena's IT firm Rs 1.72 crore was received from mining. The company is CMRL, in which Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) holds about 13 per cent stake."

The activities of national agencies have increased after Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised corruption related to CM Vijayan and his daughter in election rallies in the state.

It appears that it is only a matter of time that Veena will be served a notice by the ED and it remains to be seen if this will happen before April 26 when Kerala votes to elect 20 new Lok Sabha members.
