Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], The West Bengal government made it clear on Tuesday that Britannia Industries Limited, a leading FMCG brand, has no plans to exit the state and that the company is "fully committed " with West Bengal.

Dr Amit Mitra, senior advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, issued this statement on behalf of the state government following a political row over the closure of Britannia's Taratala plant.

At a press conference held at the State Secretariat in Nabanna, Mitra claimed to have spoken to Britannia Industries CEO Varun Berry, who assured him that the company was "fully committed" to West Bengal.

"There is a complete falsehood not only on social media but also in some mainstream media that Britannia has escaped the state. The CEO of Britannia called and said that they are fully committed to West Bengal. They are producing between Rs 1,000. -1,200 crore worth of products in the state, which will continue,” Dr Amit Mitra said on Tuesday while speaking to ANI.

Earlier on June 24, BJP's National Information and Technology Department in-charge and West Bengal co-in-charge Amit Malviya tweeted on X about the Britannia Industries factory closure, emphasizing how it clearly epitomizes the decline of Bengal , a region once famous for its cultural and intellectual contributions.

"Bengal, which was already mired in severe unemployment exacerbated by extortion and the TMC union, is now facing an even more serious situation with the factory closure, leading to mass layoffs. Unfortunately, the fate of Bengal is now trapped by the twin curses of 'Unionbaji' and 'Tolabaji' "The pressing question remains: when will Bengal be emancipated from this curse?", Malviya added.

Amit Malviya ended the tweet with the hashtag 'AntiBengalMamata'.
