Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Saturday expressed confidence of doing well in the Lok Sabha elections and claimed that the people of West Bengal have given their mandate decisively against the BJP.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Kolkata, senior TMC leader Shashi Panja claimed that barring a few isolated incidents, voting in the state was largely peaceful.

He claimed that the Election Commission conducted polling in seven phases with heavy deployment of central forces in line with the BJP's "desires".

"Yet, BJP's complaints against central forces and the Election Commission prove that the script did not go as per plan. Barring a few isolated incidents, polling has been largely peaceful," he claimed.People have given a befitting reply to the lies of BJP."

State Women and Child Development Minister Panja claimed that spreading unrest in Sandeshkhali based on lies about sexual exploitation of women and religious polarization was the basis on which the BJP contested the elections in West Bengal, but "people have Denied".

Senior TMC leader Bratya Basu claimed that BJP candidates faced "protests" at various polling booths as people were angry with them over the Center withholding West Bengal's dues for social welfare schemes.

He said, “The memories of how our senior leaders were misbehaved by the police during the peaceful protests in Delhi are still fresh. Obviously, the common people showed their anger after seeing the BJP candidates.,

Panja claimed that when BJP's Basirhat candidate Rekha Patra went to polling booths in Sandeshkhali, she faced "spontaneous opposition" as women there were upset with the way his party was "defaming her".

On allegations that TMC leaders threatened BJP and CPIM candidates, Panja said, "Let them file complaints with the Election Commission and let the Election Commission look into them."

Basu said, "The Election Commission should also investigate the other side of the story. Was there any provocation from the other side?"

On TMC's performance in the Lok Sabha elections, Panja said, "Our leader Abhishek Banerjee said after the sixth phase that we won more than 23 seats.We will not give any numbers after the seventh phase but we are confident. Wait for June 4th."

On Governor CV Anand Bose seeking a report from the state government on the probe into various scams, he said, "Let's see if he continues beyond June 4."
