Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced the release of Rs 2900 crore as financial assistance to 1.05 crore farmers of the state.

He said the West Bengal government is also releasing Rs 293 crore to 2.10 lakh farmers who have suffered crop loss due to adverse weather conditions during the current Rabi season.

“I am happy to announce that (in addition to providing assistance worth Rs 2,900 crore to 1 crore 5 lakh farmers and bargadars across the state under the Krishak Bandhu Natun scheme), we will also directly disburse an amount of Rs 293 crore from today. Bank accounts of 2.10 lakh farmers who have suffered crop loss due to adverse weather conditions during the current Rabi season, under our unique Bangla Crop Insurance (BSB). There is an insurance scheme for which the state government pays the entire premium,” he said in a post on X.

He said in the post, "Since its launch in 2019, Rs 3133 crore has reached the bank accounts of one crore affected farmers! Jai Bangla!"

"For cultivable land of more than one acre, a farmer gets Rs 10000, and for land less than that, the proportionate amount is a minimum of Rs 4000 per annum. Since its inception in 2019, an amount of Rs 18,234 crore has been disbursed to farmers. ,” she said in another post.

"Also, for a farmer who dies between 18 and 60 years, his family gets a death compensation of Rs 2 lakh. A total of 1,12,000 bereaved families in West Bengal received a total of Rs 2240 crore in this account over the years We are committed to the economic well-being and social security of our farmers,” he added in the post.
