Agartala (Tripura) [India], Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Saha on Monday said his party will oppose the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state. “We are strongly opposed to the CAA implementation in the states. The first time the CAA was opposed in our state was by the tribal youth unions, but now Tipra Motha has joined the BJP, so we will now strongly oppose the implementation and Will organize massive protests for this," he told ANI. In a press conference today, Saha criticized BJP for taking advantage of divisive issues like CAA. In 2007, BJP sought votes for 'developed India', but now they are resorting to divisive tactics." "So far 5 phases of elections have been completed in our country. In the initial stages, BJP used to seek votes in the name of developed India and now they are playing the CAA card by dividing people in the name of 'O religion,'' he said. In a related development, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Citizenship Amendment Act Criticized the Central Government over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), saying, "CAA is a discriminatory policy which is against the basic principle of our Constitution. The central government's stance on the issue has been disappointing and damaging, Barman said as voting concluded on Monday in all 49 parliamentary constituencies across eight states and union territories for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.Apart from this, voting also ended in 35 assembly constituencies in Odisha. Voting took place in eight states/UTs including Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal during the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections. According to the ECI, there are over 8.95 crore voters, including 4.69 crore males. 4.26 crore women and 5409 third gender voters were eligible to decide the fate of 69 candidates in the fifth phase of voting. Voting for the remaining seats will be held in the next two phases on May 2 and June 1.Voting will take place on June 4.
