Speculation began when it was revealed that Jose K Mani may not get re-nomination to the Rajya Sabha when elections are held for three seats on June 25.

The ruling Left party will contest two of the three seats, while the Congress-led opposition will contest the other seat.

On Saturday, top CPI(M) leaders met the CPI leadership and Jose K Mani separately on seat sharing.

"The discussion went well and CPI(M) leaders have asked us to wait as the Left Democratic Front meeting will be held on Monday," Jose K Mani said.

“Please do not be misled by speculations that our party is changing loyalties. We are not the ones to change our allegiance for the sake of power. We will remain with the Left.

Jose K Mani heads a large faction of his father, the legendary KM Mani's predecessor party.

Soon after his father's death, Jose K Mani joined the ruling Left Democratic Front and his party won five seats in the assembly in 2021 and his junior colleague got a cabinet berth in the current Pinarayi Vijayan government.

The other faction led by veteran MLA PJ Joseph is with the Congress-led UDF.

Mani suffered a setback when he lost the 2021 assembly elections from his father's traditional seat.

So all eyes are on Monday's LDF meeting and it remains to be seen whether the CPI(M) will give its won Rajya Sabha seat to Mani, as CPI Secretary Binoy Viswan had said that he would not give up his seat.
