In New Delhi [India], India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar spoke on Saturday with the new Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, David Lammy. Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership.

S Jaishankar shared a post on X stating that he hopes to have an early in-person meeting with Lammy.

"Delighted to speak to UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy. We reaffirm our commitment to enhancing our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. We look forward to a soon in-person meeting," he said.

Earlier, Jaishankar had congratulated Lammy on his appointment as UK Foreign Secretary.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, congratulated David Lammy on his appointment as Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom.

He also expressed his aspiration to work with Secretary Lammy to strengthen and develop these relations to achieve the mutual interests of the two countries and benefit their people.

Lammy, 51, replaced the Conservatives' David Cameron as Britain's top diplomat. He served as the Labor Party's international affairs spokesman for more than two years.

Upon his appointment, he outlined his priorities. He said he wants to focus on climate change and will start with a "reset" in Europe.

"It is the honor of my life to stand before you as Foreign Secretary... Britain has enormous potential. But the world faces enormous challenges. More countries involved in conflict than at any time since the Second World War. Technology that changes rapidly. And a "Climate Emergency. We will begin with a reset with Europe, on climate and with the global South. "The change begins now."
