Gros Islet (St. Vincent), Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga believes he has made his repeated mistakes in big tournaments widely discussed and now after the infamy of yet another group league exit, It's time to focus your attention on correcting those mistakes.

Hasaranga called his team's 83-run win against the Netherlands "too late" after losing their matches against South Africa and Bangladesh in the group stage of the T20 World Cup.

"After every tournament, we gather and discuss that we have made many mistakes. As a team, we should decide whether we have to correct those mistakes. I think we have not corrected our mistakes yet. Has not been rectified.“As a captain, I am very sorry about this,” Hasaranga said, leaving no stone unturned after finishing ninth in the ODI World Cup last year and suffering another humiliating defeat in the first round.

"We have discussed our mistakes in this World Cup and also in the last ODI World Cup. So we have not improved on them so we had to exit this tournament early."

The leg spinner feels that it was the batting which caused the team to face defeat.

“When we think about the bowling battalion, we are at the top in this tournament as well.Unfortunately, I know that our batting was not as good as we expected and that is why we had to exit this tournament so early." The captain put all the blame on the batsmen.

However, Hasaranga did not want to read too much into the social media comments, where there was an outburst of emotions by Sri Lankan cricket fans.

“As a player, we should not look at social media posts. Whatever is posted on social media is done by a small group of people to anger (provoke) other fans. The (real) Sri Lankan fans are with us, even if we lose the match. We should be very lucky to have fans like this in Sri Lanka."

While Sri Lanka arrived in the United States at least 10 days before the start of the tournament, Hasaranga felt that there was no similarity between the training pitches and the match decks.

“We should thank the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board for bringing us 10 days ago and organizing such a training camp. But I feel the conditions (for the matches) are not the same at the places where we have practised. Are."So, we adjusted ourselves in every possible way. Unfortunately, our first match was in New York and it was not successful. And then we went to Dallas for the next match and we could not even adjust to the pitch there. I Think as a team and as a captain, we take full responsibility.”

But Hasaranga does not want to hide behind USA's poor performance and papers regarding his team's disappointing performance."Yes, when you lose matches you can blame the pitches and make stories. But as professional cricketers, we can't do that. All other countries are also playing on similar pitches, so we have to blame ourselves." We have to accept that that's why we represent a country in these tournaments.

He concluded, "We should have improved our cricket and not blame others."
