Washington [US], Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman have reunited for the romantic comedy 'A Family Affair'. It's been 12 years since they first collaborated on 'The Paperboy,' People reported.

Zac Efron was in a different mindset when he courted Nicole Kidman on screen more than a decade ago.

In 2012, the two appeared in The Paperboy, in which Efron's wide-eyed character falls in love with an older lady (Kidman) who is romantically involved with a convicted murderer.

"We had a lot of fun doing that, but it was crazy," Efron said.

The two reunited in a more lighthearted way in the Netflix romantic comedy, 'A Family Affair.' This time, Efron, 36, plays a narcissistic Hollywood star with relationship problems who pursues the mother (Kidman, 57) of his assistant (Joey King, 24).

However, one thing remains the same, no matter what is on the page. "I'm still very much in love with Nicole," Efron said. "There's a part of me that pinches me a lot when I realize who I'm working with. I think that was more pronounced during The Paperboy because I was a lot younger. I was very nervous back then."

"It's really helpful when you do this kind of work together to have a story together because it's easy," Kidman said. "You're not working to create a story. So I don't say, 'Can I touch you?' "I feel incredible confidence in Zac."

Efron added: "We both feel safe and take care of each other."

Kidman called the script, written by Carrie Solomon, a breath of fresh air in the romantic comedy space.

"We've had it for a long time with older men and younger women, that's always been the norm; it's okay, it's completely acceptable," Kidman shared. "The problem is we haven't had the equivalent from all the different points of view, with women telling the stories."

She continued, "And we need game men. [Efron] came and made the movie because he said, 'I'm here to have fun and play and be a part of this and be there for you,' for both Joey and me."

On set, Efron was working overtime, doing tough workouts as he prepared to film the wrestling sports thriller The Iron Claw.

"A lot of the things he was doing in preparation worked on 'A Family Affair,'" Efron said. "Like the ice bath was right in front of my trailer. I did it constantly because it hurt so much."

'A Family Affair' is streaming on Netflix, People reported.
