Pune, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said Indians are alive today because Prime Minister Narendra Modi facilitated the manufacturing and administration of the COVID vaccine during the pandemic.

Referring to the Centre's 'Vaccine Maitri' initiative, the BJP leader said around 100 countries today credit Modi for providing them vaccine doses and protecting their citizens from the onslaught of coronavirus.

Recalling the COVID-19 outbreak, Fadnavis said many people lost their loved ones to the virus and the future looks bleak amid predictions that 40 to 50 crore people will perish in the country Because no one will come to India's help.

“Only a few countries invented the vaccine. He believed that India would come (to him) asking for assistance in the form of Covid vaccines,” Fadnavis said while addressing a rally in western Maharashtra's Sangli in support of BJP's Lok Sabha candidate Sanjay Kaka Patil.Fadnavis said that then the world did not know that India had a veteran at the top of its leadership who knew how to protect its people.

“Modiji brought scientists together, provided them with the necessary resources and facilitated the manufacturing of a COVID vaccine in the country,” he said, adding that 140 crore people had been vaccinated twice.

“Today, we are alive because Modi has given us the vaccine. If we had not taken this vaccine, we would not have been here to see this rally today. It was Modi who saved our lives,” the BJP leader said.Fadnavis said that during his recent visit to Mauritius, the country's President had requested him to express his gratitude to Modi for providing vaccine doses and saving the lives of the citizens of the island nation during the pandemic.

“Today, 100 countries accept that their citizens are alive because of Modi, I would say keep development aside because 'Jaan hai to jahaan hai'. We are alive because of Modi and only because of this, we can express our gratitude by blessing (voting) him,” he said.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has fielded Shiv Sena's (UBT) Chandrahar Patil in Sangli Lok Sabha constituency, where voting is scheduled in the third phase of the general elections on May 7.
