New Delhi [India]: Water crisis in the national capital amid rising temperatures has left residents scrambling for empty buckets after water tankers.

Delhi's Okhla, Chanakyapuri's Sanjay Camp area and Geeta Colony area are among those facing severe water shortage. In many areas of the national capital, residents are standing in queues to fill their buckets in the scorching heat.

In the video, people can be seen climbing on top of a moving water tanker, while several other residents are running alongside it with buckets and pipes.

Meanwhile, speaking on the water crisis in Delhi, Water Minister Atishi said, "Due to the heatwave, the demand for water has increased and on the other hand, the water level in Yamuna has decreased. Last year there was 674.5 feet of water in Wazirabad Barrage... Despite so many requests, only 671 feet of water has been released... All water treatment plants are being affected due to low water level in Wazirabad Barrage... We have requested Haryana and UP government to release water and water.,

On May 31, the Delhi government approached the Supreme Court to urgently get additional water from the neighboring state of Haryana.

The Delhi government said in its petition that it was compelled to file the petition due to the severe water shortage being faced by the people of Delhi due to the ongoing scorching heat in North India, especially Delhi.

"Direct the respondent no. 1 (Haryana) to immediately and continuously release water into Wazirabad Barrage," the plea said.

Amid the upcoming water crisis, the Delhi government on May 30 said a central control room will be set up to monitor water supply in the national capital.

The war room will be headed by an IAS officer. Delhi Water Minister Atishi also released a number '1916' where residents can call to request water tankers. It is noteworthy that Delhi Government has accused Haryana Government of not giving Delhi's share of water even after so many talks. He had further said that if the water supply does not improve in the coming 1-2 days, we will also go to the Supreme Court.
