New Delhi [India]: Residents of Geeta Colony in Delhi heaved a sigh of relief on Saturday as they finally got water supply through an increased number of tankers after complaints and protests against the Delhi Jal Board over disrupted services.

Locals protesting against the ongoing water crisis due to the heat said that their demand for adequate water supply is being met through two tankers every day.

Ram Kali said, "Water shortage has troubled us a lot. After our protest and after it was highlighted by the media, the Delhi Jal Board has started supplying water through tankers. They have given us two liters of water per day. Has assured to supply tanker water.“Resident of Geeta Colony.

"Earlier, we were provided supplies through one tanker; we had to face a lot of trouble - some people would get water and some would not. Now we are provided with two tankers, which has made the situation easier for us. It has been done. All residents are now getting adequate water,” said another resident.

While the situation is improving in Geeta Colony, residents in other areas of Delhi including Maidan Garhi and Chanakyapuri are facing inconvenience due to inadequate water supply.They are seen hovering around water tankers with their buckets, containers and boxes to carry water. Many residents of the city are not able to meet their daily needs due to lack of water.

The record-high temperatures and heat wave in Delhi, resulting in maximum temperatures rising to nearly 50 degrees Celsius at some places, has caused an extraordinary and extreme increase in water demand in the city.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has blamed the Haryana government for curbing Delhi's share of water in the Munak canal.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court had sought his stand in a contempt petition against the Haryana government and its Irrigation and Water Resources Department officials.A petition has been filed seeking action against him for allegedly non-compliance with the High Court order regarding water supply in Delhi.

The vacation bench of Neena Bansal Krishna issued notice to the Haryana government, its officials and the Delhi government and sought their response. The matter has been listed for July 24.

The notice has been issued on a petition filed by advocate SB Tripathi, seeking contempt action against the Haryana government for non-compliance of the Delhi High Court order passed on January 15, directing Haryana to Delhi It was required to supply 1041 cusecs of water per day. ,

The petition said that earlier Haryana had said that Delhi has allocation of 719 cusecs of water.Haryana is supplying 1041 cusecs of water to Delhi by diverting 319 cusecs of water from its citizens. Haryana has not said anything about reducing the existing supply of 1041 cusecs.

It is further stated that Haryana has started supplying less water from Munak Canal (Canal). Sometimes there was no water supply from Munak Canal.
