New Delhi: Water Minister Atishi's blood sugar level dropped by 16 units while his blood pressure also dropped on Saturday, the second day of his indefinite fast demanding release of the city's due share of water by Haryana, according to the Delhi government.

Atishi started 'Pani Satyagraha' in Bhogal, South Delhi on Friday. He claimed that amid the continuous heat wave, Haryana has reduced Delhi's share of Yamuna water to 513 million gallons per day (MGD), affecting over 28 lakh people in the national capital.

The Delhi government said in a statement on Saturday that on the second day of the hunger strike, Atishi's blood pressure was 119/79 mmHg, blood sugar 83 mg/d, weight 65.1 kg and oxygen level 98.

On Friday, his blood pressure was 132/88 mmHg, blood sugar 99 mg/dL, weight 65.8 kg and oxygen level 98.

"Doctors say a rapid drop in blood sugar levels is dangerous. If the hunger strike continues, sugar levels will drop further and may lead to increased ketone levels in the body," the statement said.

"No matter how much pain we have to endure, the hunger strike will continue until the people of Delhi get their share of water," the statement quoted Atishi as saying.

Delhi is dependent on Uttar Pradesh and Haryana for drinking water supply.

The Aam Aadmi Party has claimed that out of the 1,005 MGD water that Delhi gets daily, the city should get 613 MGD water from Haryana. But the national capital is getting less than 513 MGD of water from Haryana, the party has claimed.
