White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Thursday that given Kiev's urgent needs, the U.S. government is suspending some planned arms sales to other countries, particularly missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems. Has taken a "difficult but necessary" decision.

He said these should go to Ukraine, whose armed forces are in urgent need of additional air defense capabilities.

The relevant countries have been notified, Kirby said, though he did not specify which countries were involved.

He said everyone would receive what they ordered, just a little later than originally planned.

It was first mentioned by US President Joe Biden during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy a few days ago.
