Thiruvananthapuram: 'Kalalakkadal' phenomenon - strong waves caused by a sudden surge in the sea - and high tide are likely to occur along the coastal areas of Kerala and Tamil Nadu till 11.30 pm on Monday, according to the weather agency.

The Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) on Sunday issued an alert to fishermen and coastal residents of the area about the possible sea surge.

INCOIS, the central agency that issues weather warnings for fishermen in the country, has advised people to anchor their fishing vessels safely in the port.

It advised coastal people living in accident-prone areas to relocate to safer places in view of the potential danger.

People have also been suggested to completely avoid traveling to beaches and going into the sea in view of the warning, a statement said.
