Bhopal: Congress general secretary Jitendra Singh on Monday claimed that the Lok Sabha elections will yield surprising results when the votes are counted on June 4 and the "real face" of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been exposed in the ongoing elections.

Claiming support from the opposition parties, Singh said the Congress will perform brilliantly in the elections and will vastly improve the situation in Madhya Pradesh and Assam.

The AICC general secretary in-charge of political affairs of Madhya Pradesh and Assam said, "There will be a different kind of results. There will be surprising results on June 4. There is an undercurrent. In the elections, the BJP has been exposed," he told reporters here.

His statement came on the day of the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections, in which voting was held on 49 seats in six states and two union territories.

“He used social media to win the elections and campaigned on the basis of caste, religion. He announced new guarantees one after the other. The people of Madhya Pradesh have understood his hollow guarantees and political tactics. Now, stand exposed to their guarantees and tricks,” Singh said while targeting the BJP.

The Congress leader said that along with Madhya Pradesh and Assam, Congress is going to perform brilliantly in the elections in the rest of the country also.

"From the Prime Minister to block level leaders, the BJP has run a very arrogant campaign," he said.

Singh accused the ruling BJP of misusing central agencies and state machinery and claimed that the saffron party had put pressure on people to vote for it."People have received threats to vote (for BJP) otherwise their electricity and water supply will be cut off," he alleged.

The Congress leader was speaking to the media after chairing a review meeting of the party's Lok Sabha candidates in Madhya Pradesh, where voting has concluded for 29 seats.

He said Congress is fighting the Lok Sabha elections unitedly and those who wanted to harm the party's prospects are outside the organization in the state.

Before the Lok Sabha elections, there was a large-scale exodus of workers and leaders from Congress. Many Congress leaders like former Union Minister Suresh Pachauri had joined BJP.Singh said his party contested the re-election in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh despite all odds, including misuse of money, muscle power and state machinery, but performed well.

"The state machinery worked (in favor of the ruling party) in Madhya Pradesh," he alleged.

Singh said a big program would be launched from June 15 to strengthen the party in the central state.
