New Delhi: Non-profit tech organization Wadhwani Foundation on Tuesday said it has signed agreements with technical education body AICTE as well as four IITs and other premier institutes to set up a network of innovation centers across the country.

These partnerships aim to translate academic and laboratory research by Indian faculty, students and researchers into real-world applications, the Wadhwani Foundation said in a release.

According to the release, “At present, less than 1 percent of higher education institutions in India are engaged in research.Their share in India's gross expenditure on research and experimental development (GERD) is only 9 per cent."

The release said WIN-COE aims to accelerate domestic research and discoveries to create an ecosystem that provides inclusive and equitable solutions from emerging technologies, as well as collaboration between industry, universities, research institutes and government. Promotes cooperation.
