Thiruvananthapuram, Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) and Kerala Space Park (K Space) on Saturday signed an MoU in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the functioning of the space park.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office said that as part of the MoU, VSSC scientists will be members of the governing advisory committees of the space and will provide guidance and technical advice for the development of the space park.

The statement said K-Space will take necessary measures to attract new investments in the space sector and provide support for its development.

“This collaboration will act as a catalyst for the growth of the Indian space sector by creating an environment for manufacturing and servicing high quality and complex products for the space sector.

“They will also collaborate with potential investors for commercialization of innovative ideas,” it added.

Welcoming the development, Vijayan said the space park will help launch new initiatives through collaboration between ISRO and K Space, according to the statement.

ISRO Chairman S Somnath, who was the chief guest at the function, was of the view that the space park would be very useful for industries related to space technology.

According to the statement, he said that since the space park was close to VSSC, its potential was huge.

The MoU was signed by S Unnikrishnan Nair, director on behalf of VSSC, and Ratan U Kelkar, chairman of its executive council and secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, on behalf of K Space, the statement said.

K Space Aviation and Defense is one of the strategic initiatives of the Government of Kerala to promote the establishment of industries in the most advantageous strategic domains of space and related sectors.
