Kolkata, The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday suspended OCs of two police stations for alleged failure to stop violence during Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

According to the Election Commission, the OCs of Shaktipur and Beldanga police stations failed to stop the "religious violence" despite instructions.

An officer said, "Both the officers will remain at the district police headquarters and will not be able to do any election related work. The authorities concerned should file a charge sheet against both the officers."

He said the ECI has asked the Chief Electoral Officer to send names for his replacement.
