Singrauli: Congress on Monday criticized the Madhya Pradesh government after a video of an angry policeman taking off his clothes in Singrauli went viral on social media.

However, police officials said the video is from February and action has already been taken against assistant sub-inspector Vinod Mishra, who was seen indulging in the act after a heated exchange with the husband of a BJP councilor.

Uploading the clip during the day, Congress said, "The level of policing in the state has reached zero. Crime is uncontrolled, criminals are fearless and the police is helpless at some places and under pressure at others."

The party said, "This viral video is said to be from Singrauli's Vaidhan police station, where a policeman became so upset due to the pressure of a BJP councilor that he tore his uniform." Chief Mohan Yadav.

Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shiv Kumar Verma said the investigation into the February video was initiated by then SP Yusuf Qureshi.

He told that after receiving the investigation report, current SP Nivedita Gupta had ordered to stop the annual salary increment of Mishra.

Arjun Gupta, husband of BJP councilor Gauri Gupta, said the allegations that he had torn Mishra's clothes have now been proven false.

The argument was over the construction of a drain and Gupta claimed that he had only told Mishra that he would tear his uniform if he continued to get agitated.

Mishra said on Monday that Gupta threatened to tear his clothes and get him thrown out of service in the presence of station in-charge Sudesh Tiwari, adding that he also took off his uniform after feeling insulted.

Mishra said, "I should not have reacted like this."
