New Delhi, Veteran television journalist and India TV chairman Rajat Sharma was on Tuesday elected president of the News Broadcasters and Digital Association.

At the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA) board meeting here, Sharma was unanimously elected president of the body representing major news networks, a statement said.

NBDA is the largest association of news broadcasters and digital media in India, covering almost all major news networks.

After his election, Sharma said that the news industry is at a critical juncture and the NBDA needs to work collectively to advance the interests of the new genre, which is operating under considerable pressure.

"It is our responsibility to ensure that we are allowed to operate in a fear-free environment to deliver free and unbiased news," Sharma said.
