Port Blair: A vehicle boat undergoing repair work in the dry sea dock in Phoenix Bay caught fire on Thursday afternoon. The officers provided this information.

Six fire tenders were deployed to extinguish the fire on MV Pilobhabi, but no one was injured, he said.

“We got information about the incident around 12.40 pm. Our personnel immediately reached the spot and brought the situation under control within 15 minutes. It was a minor fire and no casualties or injuries were reported,” said SP (Fire and Emergency Services) Manjeet Sheoran.

"There were no staff or engineers on board the ship when the fire broke out as it was lunch time," Sheoran said.

MV Pilobhabi used to operate between Chatham and Bambooflat jetties in South Andaman, but the service was withdrawn on January 25, 2022 due to some repair work.

Officials said two vehicle ferry ships – MV Mas and MV Lapathi – now ply the route in place of MV Pilobhabi.
