New Delhi [India], Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said that various initiatives taken by the Central Government have helped in reducing childhood mortality due to diarrhea.

Nadda was addressing the launch program of 'Stop Diarrhea Campaign 2024' in Delhi on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, JP Nadda said that there is a unique connection between Mission Indradhanush, Rotavirus Vaccine and this Stop Diarrhea campaign as all these were among the first initiatives launched during my previous tenure as Health Minister.

He highlighted that in 2014, India was the first country to introduce rotavirus vaccine.

"Similarly, National Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandir network have contributed significantly in reducing diarrhea cases and mortality in the country," Nadda said.

The Union Health Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing capacity building efforts as well as sensitization of health workers to strengthen diarrhea management efforts in India. Appreciating the level of preparedness of the states, JP Nadda encouraged them to increase awareness among the public.

He said, “If our healthcare workers can reach the remotest corners of the country and administer 220 crore doses of Covid vaccines, I am sure that our frontline healthcare workers can create the same robust delivery mechanism during the Stop Diarrhea campaign. "

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel and Jadhav Patraprav Ganpatrao were also present in the program. The dignitaries also released IEC materials such as logo, posters, radio spots and audiovisuals for the campaign and distributed Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and Zinc tablets to children on the occasion.
