The city was seen immersed in saffron political colors as hundreds of people wore T-shirts with 'Har Dil Mein Modi' written on them.
Residents of Kandwa market of the city also organized a voter awareness program wearing these T-shirts and appealed to fellow residents to exercise their franchise in the ongoing elections.
Many residents of Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency, talked about the progressive policies of the Modi government and cited reasons why they should give him a third term.
Holding placards and wearing saffron caps, several locals said Varanasi had seen a lot of development in the last decade. He said that during the previous regime, development seemed to be a 'distant dream' but it was coming true under the Modi government.“The success of schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Yojana and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is strong evidence of change under the BJP rule, locals stressed and said they are benefiting the people to a great extent.
"Before 2014, there were narrow lanes here, but after PM Modi came to power, he transformed this place. We are very happy with his initiative and Satisfied."
Another local said, “From roads and electricity to water facilities, everything is being developed. There has been a huge change in the city and we hope to see the same change in the future too.,
"We have been getting free ration for the last five years. Which leader does this for the public?" asked another local wearing a 'Har Dil Mein Modi' T-shirt.
Another group of locals said, “Initiatives like Baba Vishwanath Corridor and cleaning of river Ganga have brought spirituality alive in the city.”
He also mentioned that cleaning the ghats is attracting more tourists and creating employment opportunities for the local people.
