New Delhi Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said that locomotive pilots are important members of the railway family and alleged that there is a lot of misinformation and theatrics by the opposition to demotivate them.

Vaishnaw came to X to highlight various measures taken by the railways to improve the working conditions of train drivers.

"Locomotive pilots' working hours are carefully controlled. Rest is meticulously provided after trips. Average working hours are kept within the prescribed hours," he wrote.

"The average is less than eight hours in the month of June this year. Only in case of necessity does the duration of the trip exceed the prescribed hours," he added.

Last week, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met a group of locomotive pilots who complained of "inadequate rest due to lack of staff".

Gandhi assured them that he would raise their issues in Parliament.

According to Vaishnaw, pilots operate locomotives from locomotives and before 2014, the cabins were in a very bad condition.

"Since 2014, the cabins have been upgraded with ergonomic seats and more than 7,000 locomotives are air-conditioned. New locomotives are being manufactured with air-conditioned cabins," he said.

Talking about the out-of-service rest facilities, the Railway Minister said: "When pilots complete a journey, they come to the rest rooms to rest if they are away from headquarters. Before 2014, the function rooms were in very poor condition. poor condition. Almost all (558) operating rooms now have air conditioning."

"Many racing halls also offer foot massagers. By the way, this was criticized by Congress without understanding the working conditions of locomotive pilots," he added.

He also emphasized on the recruitment process and stated that in the last few years a major recruitment exercise was completed and 34,000 officials were hired.

"The recruitment process of 18,000 officials is currently underway," Vaishnaw said.

"The attempt to demoralize the railway family with fake news will fail. The entire railway parivar is united to serve our country," he added.
