The accused have been identified as Yogesh Joshi and his daughter Shreyanshi Joshi, while the victim has been identified as Ritesh and her husband.

Complainant Rithesha said that she had come in contact with accused Shreyansi through her in-laws, who has been living in London since 2022 for her studies.

“Shreyansi offered to help Rithesha and her husband to get a work permit visa for London, suggesting that it would cost Rs 18 lakh. Rithesha agreed and later paid Rs six lakh to Shreyansi's father with a written acknowledgment on stamp paper. The documents were exchanged through WhatsApp,” said an official.

He said that a month later, Shreyansi returned from London and assured the victims that all the necessary documents for the visa were ready, and asked for the remaining amount to finalize the process.

“The victims gave an additional Rs 9 lakh in cash. After this, an interview took place through video call and Shreyansi promised that the certificate of sponsorship would arrive within two days. Later the victims were called to Shreyansi’s house to collect the sponsorship letters,” he said.

He said suspicions arose when Shreyansi started making excuses when contacted about the visa.

“The victims showed the sponsorship letter to a consultancy firm, which verified it online and found it to be fake. The victims have filed a complaint at Curzon police station against Shreyansi Joshi and Yogesh Joshi of Parimal Society, Vadodara,” the officer said.

Police said they have intensified efforts to nab the accused and further investigate the case.
