Ghaziabad (UP): A 45-year-old Uzbek woman allegedly committed suicide in the bathroom of a private hospital in Kaushambi in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district on Tuesday, police said.

According to officials at the medical facility, Zulfiya was admitted to the hospital for liver transplant surgery on May 25.

Dr Ruchi Ranaut, spokeswoman and medical superintendent of Max Vaishali, said, "She was recovering and was due to be discharged from the hospital within two days."

The officer said her husband Khairullah and her son Nurbek Mirzabdullaev were also here with her and added that Khairullah was a donor.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Indirapuram, Swatantra Kumar Singh said that at around 1.30 pm today, Zulfiya went to the bathroom attached to her room in the hospital.

He said Khairullah informed the hospital staff as she had not come out of the bathroom for a long time. The hospital security staff informed the Kaushambi police station, Singh said.

The officer said that the police found Zulfiya's body hanging from a towel hanger in the bathroom.

He said the body was sent for postmortem and a team of forensic experts examined the incident site.
