UNESCO World Heritage Site Gopeshwar, Valley of Flowers National Park in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand was opened for tourists on Saturday.

The first batch of 48 tourists was sent to the valley from Ghangaria Base Camp by Deputy Forest Conservator Bibi Martolia.

Spread over 87 sq km, the Valley of Flowers is home to rare Himalayan flora.

The place attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world due to its picturesque location amidst snow-clad mountains and the Pushpavat River flowing through it.

Martolia said, since it is a protected area, tourists cannot stay overnight in the valley and have to return to the base camp the same day.

The trek fee for the Valley of Flowers is Rs 200 for Indians and Rs 800 for foreign nationals.

The Valley of Flowers will remain open for tourists till October 31.
