Kedarnath (Uttarakhand) [India], A condolence meeting was held at Kedarnath Dham on Monday to pay tribute to the victims of the devastating flood disaster that hit the area in 2013.

The entire pilgrim community, district police administration and many pilgrims participated in the event organized by Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee and Kedar Sabha.

The disaster, which occurred on the evening of June 16, 2013, was triggered by a series of cloud bursts in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. These cloud bursts caused severe floods and landslides, destroying many villages and towns.

Thousands of people were swept away, and many bodies remain unaccounted for.The Kedarnath Dham flood disaster, which affected five districts of Uttarakhand on June 16–17, 2013, was worsened by the rapid melting of snow and ice on the Kedarnath mountain. This caused Chorabari Lake to overflow and its collapse caused massive floods, affecting thousands of people.

It rained in Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines on Friday, but pilgrimage activities remained brisk.

Whereas in Gangotri and Yamunotri the weather has deteriorated due to cloudy sky and light drizzle is occurring.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, so far this season, more than 22 lakh pilgrims have visited the four Dhams of Uttarakhand.Additionally, 70,000 devotees have paid obeisance at Sri Hemkund Sahib and Sri Lokpal Tirtha.

To facilitate easy access for pilgrims, Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has removed the previously fixed quota on the number of pilgrims allowed at Char Dham.

Pilgrims can now register for their journeys at the registration counters in Rishikesh and Haridwar, increasing convenience and accessibility.

The decision is expected to accommodate more devotees and streamline the pilgrimage process amid changing weather conditions.

The Hindu pilgrimage Char Dham circuit includes four sites: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.Yamuna River originates from Yamunotri Glacier in Uttarakhand. Every year during summer, the pilgrimage season for Char Dham Yatra is at its peak in Uttarakhand.

Earlier on June 11, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a high level meeting at the Chief Minister's residence on Tuesday, had directed the officials to coordinate with the District Magistrates to improve the Chardham Yatra arrangements. Senior officers should conduct on-site inspection of travel arrangements from time to time and cooperate with the District Magistrates for better arrangements.

The Chief Minister directed that duties and responsibilities should be determined for the formation of the Travel Authority. In this matter, a meeting should be held with the administration, temple, transport, tour agent and other concerned parties. He said that provision of buses up to 42 seats should be ensured on the travel routes.During the meeting, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the backlog of devotees in Rishikesh and Haridwar for Chardham Yatra has been cleared. All the devotees coming are being registered and sent on Chardham Yatra. The number of registrations is no longer limited.

The Chief Minister said that the implementation of the investments received during the Investor Summit should be expedited. First priority should be given to such investment proposals which are suitable to the conditions of the state and are helpful in providing employment to the local people.

The Chief Minister said that a meeting of the agencies engaged in the construction of tunnels under Rishikesh-Karnprayag Railway Line, Tanakpur-Bageshwar Railway Line and Delhi-Dehradun Elevated Road in the state should be called and the construction work should be expedited.Taking cognizance of the news of the injured calling 108 after the pickup overturned in Nainital's Betalkhat but the phone was not received, the Chief Minister directed the Health Secretary to investigate the matter. He said that if this news is true then strict action should be taken against those responsible for it.
