Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], As per the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Secretary Uttarakhand Irrigation Department Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar on Saturday inspected the dam site of Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project.

Notably, on July 3, the Chief Minister held a review meeting of the Irrigation Department in which he directed officials to go to ground zero and inspect various projects of the Irrigation Department. Following instructions, Dr R Rajesh conducted a site inspection of the under-construction Jamrani Dam Project at Haldwani. He said the Jamrani dam project is one of the ambitious projects of the state government.

During the inspection, Deputy General Manager of the project, BB Pandey, informed that under the Jamrani Dam Multipurpose Project, construction work of a 150.6 m high concrete gravity dam is proposed. The project will annually provide 42.70 million cubic meters (million cubic meters) of drinking water to Nainital district of Uttarakhand.

Apart from this, the project will also provide additional irrigation facilities in 57,066 hectares of Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand and Bareilly and Rampur districts of Uttar Pradesh.

An MoU has been signed between the Government of India and the State Government to fund the project. For the construction of the project, the Government of India has released an amount of Rs 157.50 crore as first payment for the financial year 2024-25. The state government has released an amount of Rs 200.00 crore in the financial year 2023-24 for the rehabilitation works of the project. The project managers were instructed to expedite the rehabilitation work by establishing coordination with the district administration.

According to the official website of the Uttarakhand Irrigation Department, the Jamrani multipurpose dam project is proposed to be constructed on the Gola river in Nainital.

In the first phase of the project, construction of Gola dam, reconstruction of 244 km canal and construction of Damuva and Amritpuri colony were completed. In the second phase, the construction of the main dam is being considered.
